FAQ (Frequently Asked
Questions)
Why do we need this service?
Two very big reasons; a real fire emergency will have
catastrophic results which may include fatalities, significant fines
and severe penalties if negligence is proven. Secondly, mandatory
requirements enforced by Port State Control Inspection; Any Company
that has experienced a detained vessel situation will not want this to
happen again. The cost of our services in comparison is insignificant.
Is this service applicable to any kind of vessel?
Yes - wherever there is a vessel that is not fully
automated and is reliant on a human crew. We have primarily serviced
bulk carriers, tankers and container ships and more recently we have
extended to Ro Ro’s.
Is this service applicable to small vessels and crew?
Yes – the smallest vessel attended consisted
of six crew members who had been detained due to substandard emergency
preparedness.
How do we ensure our representative attains conclusive
and proper footage of a recorded simulated drill?
Your representative should be a Superintendent or
Officer with a basic working knowledge of Emergency preparedness
protocols. In addition to this, we will provide all of the necessary
details required to obtain the required footage prior to the event.
How much time should we allocate for the evaluation
recording?
This is where the system comes into its own. You may
choose to run the entire evaluation drill process back to back or
segregate it into three different time periods, dependent on the
ship’s operations and crew availability. We require a total
of three simulated drills for our evaluation purposes. These should
last anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes each.
Can we acquire this service at short notice, e.g. we
have a potential port state inspection at our next destination and want
to examine crew capability before arrival?
Yes – we will endeavour to provide an
emergency response if the situation is of an urgent nature and at no
extra charge.
Are you also able to evaluate the fire fighting
equipment i.e. the fireman’s outfits, accessories and
Breathing Apparatus?
Yes – We can conclude whether this equipment
is suitable based on your description and photographic evidence or
onboard inspection if required.
Are you from a land based fire-fighting background?
No – our personnel are marine fire management
specialists. This is very different from land based fire fighting
protocols where the science is the same but the application is not.
How have you developed this system and does it work?
Our system has been developed “in the
field” by attending many vessels since 2005 that
have been detained or required serious attention on the request of
their owners. Each vessel is different and presents its own unique
obstacles. This experience has allowed us to formulate the optimum
system based on the requirements of SOLAS, IMO and the STCW95 code and
our own high safety standards.
How do you apply your onboard training programme if
this is required?
This consists of a collection of modules creating the
framework of the programme. We normally designate two or more of our
personnel to instruct the crew. The end result is a complete Fire
Emergency Response team reacting with the precision of a military
operation.
Does this mean our crew have to learn to be experienced
fire-fighters as well as seamen?
No - we understand that the crew are primarily seamen
and have many duties to perform. Our training is specifically designed
to provide the necessary levels of education without compromising their
seamanship. Our primary focus is on the reaction and coordination of
the crew in the event of a fire emergency.
So this isn’t a pure fire-fighting system and
training programme?
No – look at the system and programme as
Management that encompasses Command, Control, Communication,
Coordination Application and Organisation.
Why should we choose your Company?
Firstly, your choice is very limited as we are the only
Company to offer this unique service. Secondly you have nothing to lose
and everything to gain, particularly as our ongoing consultancy support
is free!
Are the standards you train recognised
worldwide and in all jurisdictions?
The standards set by the UK are amongst the highest in
the world. Our training conforms to all international regulations and
we keep up to date with new conformities and legislation, including any
differences that may occur in other Continents.
How much does your evaluation system and training
programme cost?
Our prices are available upon request. They are firm
with NO hidden extras, NO estimates and NO surcharges. Our quotation is
without any obligation and the cost to value price of this service is
exceptional.
Are the recordings of our Emergency preparedness drills
returned after being analysed?
Yes - our client’s privacy is vitally
important and your information remains strictly confidential. NO
details will be disclosed to a third party.
We don’t have anyone capable of filming the
evaluation drills at present; are you able to travel to a pre-arranged
destination and perform this on our behalf?
Yes - our personnel will travel to any vessel (subject
to availability) upon your request. We will also undertake an
inspection of the fire-fighting equipment at no extra charge whilst
onboard the vessel to make full use of the visit. We will use our own
equipment (Camcorder).
We are prepared to acquire a camcorder; what are our
best options and are they suitable for your review?
There are currently three options available:
- HDD(Hard Disk Drive) - Records straight to memory
without a disk the same as MP3 technology
- DVD - Records onto a miniature DVD disc for playback
on a PC or DVD player
- MINI DV – Records onto a high quality
digital tape for playback on the camcorder or viewed via PC/TV with
connection.
Option 2 (DVD) is our preferred method of playback
review although we can accommodate Option 3 (MINI DV) if necessary.
What happens after your review of our Emergency
preparedness drills?
We provide you with a full written report detailing our
observations and recommendations. It is entirely your own decision from
therein as to whether our M.F.M.P (Marine Fire Management Program)
should be implemented and you are under no obligation whatsoever.
In the unfortunate event that one of our vessels is
detained due to substandard emergency preparedness, could you assist us
with the necessary training?
Absolutely – We have an emergency response
team (subject to availability) who will coordinate with your DPA to
place our team onboard, wherever the location. Our designation from
therein is to act totally on your behalf to secure the
vessel’s release at the earliest possible date. We have a
100% release success rate on ALL detained vessels attended to date.
